Agra Taj Mahal Tour Package

A Monument to Eternal Love — The Taj Mahal at Dawn

Duration

3D / 2N

Destination

Uttar Pradesh

Available

Year-round

Starting from

₹8,999/person

Trip Overview

The Taj Mahal needs no introduction — yet nothing fully prepares you for the moment you pass through the main gateway and see it in person. Built between 1631 and 1653 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is widely considered the world's most beautiful building. Its perfect symmetry, translucent white Makrana marble that changes colour with the light, and the story of love it embodies make it an overwhelming and deeply moving experience. This 3-day tour is designed to give you the Taj at its most magical — a sunrise visit before the crowds arrive, when the marble turns from pale silver to warm gold in the first light of day. But Agra's Mughal heritage extends far beyond the Taj: the massive red sandstone Agra Fort (another UNESCO site) across the Yamuna, where Shah Jahan spent his final years imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb — reportedly gazing at the Taj from a marble balcony. And the ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri, 37 km from Agra, where Akbar built an entire imperial capital in red sandstone only to abandon it 15 years later — one of the world's most perfectly preserved Mughal architectural ensembles. Mehtab Bagh, the moonlight garden across the river, offers the finest full-view of the Taj at sunset without the crowds.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Arrive Agra — Taj Mahal First Glimpse

Arrive at Agra Railway Station or Agra Airport. Transfer to hotel. Check in and freshen up. Evening: visit Mehtab Bagh (the moonlight garden across the Yamuna) — the finest viewpoint for a full Taj Mahal panorama at sunset without ticket queues. Watch the marble turn golden as the sun sets. Explore the Kinari Bazaar for marble inlay work and Agra leather goods. Overnight in Agra.

Breakfast (from Day 2)|As per preference|Mehtab Bagh sunset Taj view, Kinari Bazaar walk
2

Taj Mahal Sunrise & Agra Fort

Rise before dawn — arrive at the Taj Mahal's East Gate as it opens at sunrise. Watch Shah Jahan's masterpiece transform from silver to gold in the morning light, almost deserted at this hour. Explore the mausoleum, the mosque, the reflecting pool, and the calligraphy inscriptions with your guide. Midday: visit Itmad-ud-Daulah — the 'Baby Taj' — a jewel-like mausoleum that served as the prototype for the Taj itself. Afternoon: tour the magnificent Agra Fort — a UNESCO World Heritage Site with palaces, mosques, and the poignant Musamman Burj where Shah Jahan died gazing at the Taj. Overnight in Agra.

Breakfast|As per preference|Taj Mahal sunrise, Itmad-ud-Daulah, Agra Fort
3

Fatehpur Sikri & Departure

Morning: drive to Fatehpur Sikri (37 km) — Akbar's magnificent abandoned Mughal capital. Explore the Buland Darwaza (world's largest gateway), Jama Masjid, Panch Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas, and the Tomb of Salim Chishti. The entire city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a Mughal dream frozen in red sandstone. Return to Agra. Transfer to railway station/airport for departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time to visit the Taj Mahal?

Sunrise is the absolute best time — the marble glows golden-pink, the crowds are minimal, and the light is magical for photography. Arrive at the East Gate at opening time (30 minutes before sunrise). October to March is the best season — cool weather and clear skies make the marble appear most brilliant.

How much does Taj Mahal entry cost?

Entry fees (payable separately, not included in the package): Indian nationals — ₹50; Foreign nationals — ₹1,100 (includes Agra Fort on same day). A ₹200 levy applies to enter the main mausoleum. Photography is free in the gardens; no cameras/photography are allowed inside the mausoleum building.

Is the Taj Mahal closed any day?

Yes — the Taj Mahal is closed every Friday for the Juma prayers. Plan your visit accordingly. The complex is open sunrise to sunset all other days. Moonlight viewing on the 5 nights around the full moon is available by special permit (limited tickets, book in advance).

How far is Agra from Delhi?

Agra is approximately 230 km from Delhi — about 3 hours by road on the Yamuna Expressway or 2 hours by Gatimaan Express/Shatabdi Express train. The train is the most comfortable option. Our package includes transfers from Agra Railway Station/Airport.

What other monuments should I see in Agra besides the Taj?

Agra has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Fatehpur Sikri. Also highly recommended are Itmad-ud-Daulah (Baby Taj), Mehtab Bagh (best Taj viewpoint), Chini Ka Rauza (Persian-style tomb), and the Ram Bagh (Mughal garden). This package covers all major sites.

Is photography allowed at the Taj Mahal?

Photography is allowed throughout the Taj Mahal gardens and exterior. However, cameras, tripods, and photography are strictly prohibited inside the main mausoleum (the white marble building housing the tombs). Mobile phones are now allowed inside but photography may be restricted — check current rules with your guide.

What souvenirs can I buy in Agra?

Agra is famous for: marble inlay work (pietra dura) — the same technique used on the Taj Mahal; Agra leather shoes (juttis and shoes); Petha (a unique white pumpkin sweet); Mughal miniature paintings; and carpets. The Kinari Bazaar and Sadar Bazaar are the main shopping areas.
