Trip Overview

The Andaman Islands are one of India's most extraordinary natural treasures — a 572-island archipelago in the Bay of Bengal where tropical rainforests meet powder-white beaches and some of the world's most pristine coral reefs. While most visitors spend their trip in Port Blair, the real Andaman reveals itself on the outer islands: Havelock and Neil. Havelock Island (officially Swaraj Dweep) is the crown jewel — consistently ranked among Asia's top beaches, Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7) has won multiple awards for its turquoise waters, fine white sand and spectacular sunsets. The island offers world-class snorkelling and scuba diving at Elephant Beach, and the gentle Kalapathar Beach is perfect for sunrise walks. Neil Island (officially Shaheed Dweep) is quieter, more intimate and increasingly sought after for its natural beauty. Laxmanpur Beach is famous for its stunning sunset and natural rock formations (the Howrah Bridge). Bharatpur Beach has calm, shallow waters ideal for families and snorkelling. The island has a distinctly unhurried pace — no ATMs, minimal crowds, and night skies full of stars. Port Blair, the capital, holds its own with the deeply moving Cellular Jail (Kala Pani) — where freedom fighters were imprisoned by the British — and the Anthropological Museum. The Ross Island ruins, overgrown with roots and trees, speak of colonial ambition swallowed by nature. NorthYatra's 7-day Neil Island & Havelock Package is the most complete Andaman itinerary available — balancing beach time, sightseeing, water sports and island-hopping through carefully timed ferry connections.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to visit Andaman Islands?

October to May is ideal — clear skies, calm seas and great underwater visibility for snorkelling and diving. November to February is peak season (book early). June to September is monsoon — ferry services may be suspended and some beaches are unsafe for swimming. December to January sees the best beach weather but highest prices.

How do you get to Neil Island?

Neil Island is reached by government ferry or private catamaran (Makruzz, Nautika) from Port Blair (2–2.5 hrs) or from Havelock (45 min to 1 hr). Ferry schedules are limited (1–2 sailings per day) so timing matters — NorthYatra plans all connections carefully.

Is Radhanagar Beach really one of Asia's best?

Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7) on Havelock was named Best Beach in Asia by Time magazine and has consistently ranked among top global beaches. The beach is 2 km of uninterrupted powdery white sand, turquoise water and jungle backdrop — genuinely stunning. Sunset here is spectacular.

Can non-swimmers enjoy the Andaman trip?

Absolutely. Most beaches are safe for non-swimmers to wade and enjoy. Glass-bottom boats at North Bay and Bharatpur allow you to see corals without snorkelling. Elephant Beach has shallow areas. Neil Island's Bharatpur lagoon is exceptionally calm. Our team can suggest the best activities for non-swimmers.

Is Andaman expensive compared to Goa or Kerala?

Yes, Andaman is more expensive primarily because everything is flown in or shipped. Flights to Port Blair are the biggest cost. Hotels and food are also pricier than equivalent categories on the mainland. However, the experience — pristine beaches, clean water, minimal crowds — is unmatched. We recommend booking flights in advance for the best fares.
