Munnar Hill Station Tour Package

India's Tea Country — Mist, Mountains & Munnar Magic

Duration

4D / 3N

Destination

Kerala

Available

Year-round

Starting from

₹13,999/person

Trip Overview

Munnar sits at the confluence of three mountain streams — Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundaly — wrapped in a seemingly endless carpet of tea bushes that climb every hillside as far as the eye can see. At 1,600 metres above sea level, this is the heartland of Kerala's high-altitude tea country, home to some of the world's finest single-estate teas and a landscape of extraordinary beauty. The journey to Munnar from Kochi is itself a highlight — winding roads cut through forests of teak, cloves, cardamom, and rubber, with waterfalls tumbling alongside the highway. On arrival, the air temperature drops noticeably and the scent of tea is in every breath. Days in Munnar are spent exploring the tea estates, where you can watch the entire process from leaf to cup at the historic Tata Tea Museum. The Eravikulam National Park is home to the Nilgiri Tahr — a rare mountain goat found only in the Western Ghats — and during the Neelakurinji bloom (once every 12 years), the hillsides turn an extraordinary shade of violet-blue. Echo Point, Top Station (with views extending into Tamil Nadu), and Mattupetty Dam complete Munnar's sightseeing circuit. This is a destination for those who want their mountains with a cup of the world's finest tea.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Munnar famous for?

Munnar is famous for its high-altitude tea plantations, misty mountain landscapes, Eravikulam National Park (home to Nilgiri Tahr), the rare Neelakurinji flower (blooms once in 12 years), Kolukkumalai (world's highest tea estate), and scenic drives through the Western Ghats. It's considered Kerala's most spectacular hill station.

What is the best time to visit Munnar?

September to May is the best time for Munnar. The post-monsoon period (September–November) is lush and green with waterfalls at full flow. December–February is cool and misty, perfect for tea walks. March–May is warm but pleasant at altitude. Avoid peak monsoon (June–August) for road access reasons.

How far is Munnar from Kochi Airport?

Munnar is approximately 130 km from Cochin International Airport, about a 3.5–4 hour scenic drive through the Western Ghats. The route passes spectacular waterfalls (Cheeyappara and Valara) and spice plantations.

What is Kolukkumalai and why is it special?

Kolukkumalai is the world's highest tea estate, located at 2,100 metres above sea level near Munnar. The tea factory here is a 100-year-old colonial-era structure still using original machinery. Access is by 4WD jeep on a steep mountain track — the journey itself is thrilling.

Can I see wildlife in Munnar?

Yes! The Eravikulam National Park near Munnar is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr (a rare Himalayan mountain goat), gaur (Indian bison), sambar deer, and over 130 bird species. The park is open October–April. During the Neelakurinji bloom year, it's exceptionally crowded.

Is Munnar suitable for families with children?

Absolutely. Munnar's cool climate, open tea estates, Mattupetty Dam boating, and Echo Point are great for families. Children particularly enjoy the jeep rides to Kolukkumalai and spotting Nilgiri Tahr in Eravikulam park. It's a safe, scenic, and educational destination.

What local products should I buy in Munnar?

Munnar is renowned for its artisanal teas — buy high-grown CTC, orthodox, green, and white teas directly from the estate shops. Other must-buys include cardamom, cloves, pepper, homemade chocolates, eucalyptus oil, and Neelakurinji honey.
