Day-by-Day Itinerary
Haridwar to Joshimath
Depart Haridwar and drive through Rishikesh, Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Chamoli to Joshimath (2,519 m). The route along the Alaknanda river is breathtakingly scenic. Overnight at Joshimath.
Joshimath to Govindghat – Trek to Ghangaria
Drive to Govindghat (1,829 m) and begin the 14 km trek to Ghangaria (3,050 m) — the base camp for both Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. The trail follows the Pushpawati river through beautiful alpine forests.
Ghangaria – Valley of Flowers
Early morning hike into the Valley of Flowers National Park (3,658 m). The trail unfolds into a vast carpet of wildflowers with over 500 species in bloom. Photograph the rare Brahmakamal, blue poppy and primulas against snow-topped peaks. A truly otherworldly experience.
Ghangaria – Hemkund Sahib
Trek to Hemkund Sahib (4,329 m) — the world's highest Gurudwara, situated beside a pristine glacial lake ringed by seven Himalayan peaks. Taking a dip in the icy lake water is considered sacred. The Sikh gurdwara here serves langar (free meals) to all visitors.
Valley of Flowers – Second Visit
Return to the Valley of Flowers for a deeper exploration — the flora changes daily during bloom season. Visit the further reaches of the valley where fewer tourists venture. Spot Himalayan birds and monal pheasant.
Ghangaria to Govindghat – Drive to Joshimath
Descend from Ghangaria to Govindghat and drive back to Joshimath. Celebrate a successful trek with a memorable evening in Joshimath.
Joshimath to Haridwar – Departure
